ABOUT THE COMPANY


Golden Valley Wind Farm is a 120MW onshore wind project, situated near to the towns of Bedford, Cookhouse, Adelaide and Somerset East. The facility is located within the Blue Crane Route Local Municipality, within the Sarah Baartman District Municipality, in the Eastern Cape. The project was awarded preferred bidder status under the South African Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Programme (REIPPP) bid window 4 in 2015 and reached financial close in 2018. The facility generates 480GWh per annum supplying an estimated 104,000 households with clean sustainable energy. The project is investing in economic and socioeconomic development initiatives for the betterment of the local communities within 50km radius scale.

About The Bursary


The BTE Renewables Golden Valley Wind Energy Bursary is available for various degrees or certificates for students Born/Living/Schooled within 50km from the Golden Valley Wind Farm: Amstilite (Eastern Cape), encompassing the following communities: Adelaide, Bedford, Cookhouse or Somerset East.

Please make sure your home town falls within one of the communities listed above.

The bursary is for students from previously disadvantaged groups (low-income BBBEE designated applicants), and it covers the full cost of tertiary studies. 

This Bursary is for the 2025 academic year. You need to be studying full-time in 2025 to qualify. 

What will the Bursary include?

  • Fees – Registration/Tuition, accommodation, meals, books and stationery;
  • Living stipends;
  • Mentoring and development 
  • Additional study support where regarded appropriate
  • Laptop provided for study purposes.

Successful applicants will be required to participate in an intense monthly mentorship programme, designed to make sure they are highly employable when they graduate. They will also receive full wrap-around support in the form of private tutoring, paid for by the sponsor.

Any applicant or awardee later revealed to not be studying full-time or having paid employment; will have their bursary contract/offer terminated and required to refund all benefits paid to them by the bursary. 

Bursaries will be awarded in line with the Employment Equity plan of the organisation. 

 

 

Who Can Apply


The bursary programme will be aimed at candidates who meet the following criteria:

  1. South African citizens. 
  2. Born/Living/Schooled within 50km of the Golden Valley Wind Farm , from the Eastern Cape communities of Adelaide, Bedford, Cookhouse or Somerset East.
  3. Belong to a BBBEE racial designated group (Black, Coloured, Indian, etc)
  4. UNEMPLOYED and pursuing a FULL-TIME qualification at any DHET/CHE registered tertiary Institution, in 2025 
    • For the following qualification levels: Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Degree/Honours, Masters or Phd.
    • For Post-grad applicants the research topic will form part of selection criteria. 
  5. In 2024; be studying matric or on a gap-year after matric in 2023/2022/2021
  6. In 2025; be studying for a SAQA-registered tertiary qualification
  7. Pursuing their qualification-level for the first time (i.e. not repeating a degree-year, honours, etc)   
  8. Haven't failed more than 2 subjects during their current enrolment (which also did not delay their expected qualification completion timeline). 
  9. Depending on the application progress: candidates may be required to undergo screening, shortlisting, interview, and psychometric assessments.

Have applied to study in 2025 or have already been accepted for registration in 2025. 

Bursaries are offered only for studies leading to SAQA-registered higher certificates, diplomas, degrees or equivalent NQF-rated qualifications. 

 

Bursaries will be awarded in line with the Employment Equity plan of the organisation.

    2. A 1-2 page statement clearly setting out why you have chosen your field of study, how you intend to use it  after graduation, and why/how it will benefit the SPONSOR to fund your studies
    3. A comprehensive CV of work experience and background
    4. Certified copy of your valid South African identity document
    5. Recent certified Parents/Guardian SA ID or Death Certificate (or death certificate if deceased) [*]
    6. Proof of household income (certified copy of SASSA docs or 3 months Payslips of parents/guardians) - Please attach affidavits confirming unemployment, if parent/s are unemployed*
    7. One letter of recommendation from an individual who can speak to your personal character and/or your academic performance. This person should not be a relative or friend. Please include their telephone details.
